Sfântu Gheorghe - part II.

Visitors from allover the world come to Sfântu Gheorghe. they about this speechless place. Words cannot describe the beauty of this places. Take Sahalin Island, for example, an uninhabited one, where people seldom go. It is part of the Biosphere Reservation of Danube Delta.

The main explains that the bird one can admire the most, the main one is the Pelican. He takes the tourists to see the pelicans, and the tourists are always amazed by this bird.

I found this trailer of this documentary that's just great ! In the word of waters, we see fantastic landscapes, fishermen and fishing birds, like Sterna Caspia or the black headed gull.

Birds of Danube Delta

One of my passions are birds. I like birdwatching a lot and the Danube Delta is THE PLACE to go for birdwatching.

Danube Delta in autumn

Fall may not be the best season for suntanning, but is definitely can be very interesting for birdwatching. Watching the autumn migration of birds is a unique spectacle, and if you are a bird-watcher you know this for sure.

But you don't have to be a birdwatcher to admire the birds and understand them fascinating life. If have a guide with you to explain and to show different species of birds, to teach you how to identify them, the visit to the Danube Delta is a success.

Sulina, Romania

The third party of the Danube Delta biosphere reserve concentrates on the history and the old citadels of Histria and Enisala, but also on inhabitant's life. We see the fishermen traditions, the boats and the cultural inheritance.

Here is the second part of the DVD done for the Danube Delta project.

Even if sometimes the translation in English is not the best, like the Dalmatian Pelican being referred to as Curly pelican, or the birds' migration ways translated asa "migration roads", it still is a very good presentation. By the way, did you know that no less than five migration ways cross the geographical position of the Danube Delta ?


The Danube's Delta shelters above three hundred species of birds from Europe and from other continents. That's why the Danube Delta fully deserves it's fame as paradise of birds. We can see the small egret, the swans, the cormorants or the terns. The documentary highlights the Pelicans (Pelecanus Onocrotalus) and presents the way they fish together with the cormorants.

We also get presented the muskrat and the various species of fish . We also discover the lighthouses of Sulina and it's rich history. Images from the cemetery reminds of the legends of the XIX-th century, from love stories to pirates.

Danube Delta Project

A lot of birds are presented like Swans, White Pelicans, herons. But also images from Sulina, Romania's easternmost locality and from Tulcea, "the gate to the Danube Delta"

Along the Danube

Sulina, the easternmost human settlement in Romania, has once been an important harbor and commercial center. Sulina is now a poor town, but a place to go for birdwatching. Danube Delta is the European main destination for birdwatching due to the 325 different species of birds breeding here.

You can notice in this movie the white stork, Ciconia ciconia, the white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) the RailsCoot (Fulica atra)
